Most of the time iWire recommends using the OEM ECU that is designed for the engine that is in the car. However, there are circumstances where a standalone can be the right choice. Please note that we only sell Haltech products with a merge or swap. 

The Haltech ECU is a great option for:

• 1993-2000 JDM WRX or STi (OEM ECU is non tunable) - Plug and Play Harness Available

• Six Cylinder Applications (OEM ECU is non tunable)

• CANBUS equipped 2008 and newer WRX and STi in non CAN equipped chassis

• CANBUS equipped 2005 and newer Legacy GT in non CAN equipped chassis

Coming Soon! Haltech Elite 2500s will be plug and play replacements for 08-14 Controller Area Network (CAN) equipped Impreza WRX and STi. Normally for these applications the standalone ECU would have to be run as a piggyback to the OEM ECU in order to keep the dash equipment happy like cluster, radio, ABS, etc.
